Man’s body discovered in town flat

Tuesday 16th February 2010, 10:31AM GMT.

An investigation has been launched after a man’s body was found in a flat in Shrewsbury.

Police today said they were treating the death of the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, as unexplained.

Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said officers sealed off a flat in Abbey Foregate yesterday afternoon after being alerted to the scene.

He said: “Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a flat in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, yesterday afternoon. At this stage it is being treated as an unexplained death.”

He said inquiries were continuing and John Ellery, the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, had been informed. A police car remained outside the property today.

Meanwhile, the body of a man has been found in a coppice in a village near Oswestry. Police were called to the wooded area on the old Chirk Road in Weston Rhyn after the discovery at about 5pm on Sunday.

It is believed that train passengers were among those who alerted the emergency services to the tragedy.

The man has still to be formally identified but he is believed to be a local man in his 50s, who lived alone.
