Fiona Bruce presenting the Antiques Roadshow from Blists Hill
An oak dresser worth up to £30,000 and a set of puppets worth £25,000 were just some of the many treasures taken along to the filming of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow in Shropshire.
Programme makers turned to the past when they took their cameras to Blists Hill Victorian Town in the Ironbridge Gorge for the show last September. The programme was broadcast on BBC1 last night.
Expert John Bly described the “sophisticated” oak dresser, dating from 1740 to 1760, as “the best one I have ever seen”,
He added: “I have not seen in 40 years such a long proper dresser”.
The woman who had taken it to the show said it belonged to her husband’s cousin, who had just moved into a home and had promised it to her.
She exclaimed “goodness me” when she was told it could fetch £25,000 to £30,000.
