This week’s pictures from the past
Friday 12th February 2010, 9:01AM GMT.

There goes the bride. . . This is an unknown wedding and the location is uncertain, although Roy Pilsbury who loaned this to us thinks it is at Meole Church, Shrewsbury. The date is vague as well, but it may be 1950s or 1960s.
The car is a Rolls-Royce and was one of Taxi Lea’s wedding cars. Roy says the photo is from the Frank Painter Collection.
It was given to Alan Painter by a Mrs Lea. “Everybody used to know them as Taxi Lea’s, as they had a taxi business in Belle Vue in Shrewsbury,” says Roy.

i recall the woods family business’s in the 1950,s right up until the brewery industry of nowadays at the plough wistanstow.
in the 1950′s i recall the huge chukie chicken compex just north of craven arms, and a fleet of elderly buses for staff transport.
correct me if my memory is playing tricks but were there not a chain of j p woods green grocers shops. one was situated in high st. shrewsbury on the right near the ancient foresters office and way past the ladies fashion shop of feltons and the butchers charlie edwards probably on the left at the top of wyle cop. i know these names as i went to school with the felton boys and the son of charlie edwards who was chairman or on the board of shrewsbury town football club. all these memories are between 1949 and 1952
final memory is of my grandfathers hatters and hosiers shop in mardol, known as russell and roberts. on the right going down mardol.
many thanks for the memories
