Simpson relishes revenge mission
Friday 12th February 2010, 12:23PM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town go seeking derby day revenge against Hereford tomorrow, with manager Paul Simpson admitting; “We let ourselves down at their place.”
The Bulls won this season’s first contest between the two sides in November, scoring twice in the opening half hour to secure a 2-1 win at Edgar Street.
But Shrewsbury enter the return in high spirits after a run of just one defeat in eight games, and they will go fourth if they can better the result of Rotherham, who make the trip to Lincoln.
And manager Simpson has urged his side to carry their recent momentum into the visit of John Trewick’s side.
“It’s a fantastic game for us to look forward to,” said the Town boss, ahead of a side who have failed to mount a promotion challenge of their own after relegation from League One last season.
“We know we let ourselves down for parts of the game against Hereford earlier in the season and we want to put that right.
“I saw them against Lincoln a couple of weeks ago and they have some good players, and passed the ball well.
“We are on a good run of results at the moment and we want to keep that going.
“If we keep doing the right things, we will give ourselves a good chance.”
Simpson is likely to stick with the same starting line-up which has already secured victories over Macclesfield and Barnet.
Full-back Dean Holden is making steady progress from his hamstring injury, but is unlikely to be ready to be considered for first-team duty until next week.
Young duo Jake Simpson and Andreas Arestidou are also completing their recovery from longer-team setbacks, with the former set to play some part in Tuesday night’s reserve game at Burton.
Meanwhile, Town continue their quest to bring in extra loan reinforcements, with Dutch winger Benjamin van den Broek a reported target.
