Hundreds call new potholes hotline
Friday 12th February 2010, 6:00PM GMT.
Hundreds of people have bombarded a pothole-busting hotline with calls pinpointing Telford’s battered roads – just two weeks after it was launched.
More than 550 reports have been received since the hotline was set up by Telford & Wrekin Council – triple the usual number.
And the council said it had used enough material to fill about 2,500 potholes.
It launched the campaign to ask residents and partner organisations to be on the lookout after several roads were left badly damaged after the big freeze.
The council has pumped extra resources into dealing with potholes following the continued cold weather.
It said the wintry conditions had caused an increase in the number of potholes and the level of reports about them.
Rapid response teams were now working flat out to fix the reported potholes.
Councillor Adrian Lawrence, cabinet member for environment and rural area, said: “The Pothole Busters campaign has got off to a great start with hundreds of people calling and e-mailing us to report potholes.
“This has been a great help. We have put on extra teams to deal with the rise in the reports and we’re committed to repairing as many potholes as quickly possible.
“I urge residents and partners, if you see a pothole, get in touch. Give us as much information as possible, regarding the location of the pothole or damage to the road.”
The council said tackling potholes was a top priority and the pothole busters can be contacted 24 hours a day at www.telford.gov.uk/potholebusters or on the hotline (01952) 384000 with the extended opening times of 8am to 7pm on weekdays.
The campaign is expected to run until the early spring.
