Club doorman admits manslaughter

Thursday 11th February 2010, 3:04PM GMT.

A 22-year-old doorman this afternoon admitted killing a Shropshire man in a scuffle at a nightclub.

Neil Stokes admitted the manslaughter of Darren Griffiths at Shrewsbury’s Liquid and Diva club during a brief appearance at Birmingham Crown Court today.

Stokes, of Spring Garden, Ditherington, Shrewsbury, had previously denied murdering Mr Griffiths at the club last June.

A second man, Daryl Brown, of Severn Drive, Wellington, today denied a charge of manslaughter.

The court was told Brown would face trial on the manslaughter charge on April 14 at Birmingham Crown Court but the murder charge against both defendants would be dropped.

Stokes was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the end of Brown’s trial.
