Wednesday 10th February 2010, 11:11AM GMT.
A man in his 20s is in a critical condition in hospital today after he was injured in a fight in a north Shropshire town.
He suffered serious head injuries after a fight in Market Drayton.
The man was taken by ambulance to the North Staffs University Hospital in Stoke yesterday afternoon.
Police investigating the incident say two men have been arrested.
They today appealed for witnesses to the incident in the town centre to come forward to help them with their inquiries.
Police say that the fight happened at around 4pm when the town centre would have been busy with shoppers and visitors.
Detective Inspector Mick Homden said: “The victim, a man in his late 20s, was assaulted in a fight outside the Fruit and Shake cafe in Queen Street at around 4pm yesterday.
“It involved at least one other person.
“He was knocked to the ground and received serious head injuries.
“We are anxious to speak to anyone who saw any part of this fight.”
He added: “Several people have already come forward but it was a fairly busy time of day and we believe there are other people who would have seen the incident.”
Mr Homden added: “It is absolutely vital those who witnessed any part of this incident makes contact with Shrewsbury police station on 0300 3333000 as a matter of urgency.”
The two men arrested on suspicion of assault were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station for questioning.
