Leslie spree is boot-iful

Steven Leslie of Shrewsbury Town celebrates with Terry Dunfield and Kelvin Langmead after scoring to make it 2-0Super Steve Leslie has revealed the inspiration behind his goal-scoring heroics for Shrewsbury Town – a pair of new boots.

Leslie grabbed his second stunning strike in as many games by producing an unstoppable 20-yard thunderbolt in last night’s 2-0 win over Barnet.

It helped keep Shrewsbury’s promotion bandwagon on track and followed swiftly from the 22-year-old’s exceptional curling effort on Saturday.

And Leslie revealed his sharp-shooting has coincided with new footwear.

“My old boots had holes in them and I ordered some off the internet,” he said.

“They didn’t come so I had to go out and get some new ones on Friday night. I wore the boots for the first time on Saturday – I hadn’t even wore them in training.

“It has worked out and they have produced two goals so I certainly wont be changing them.”

Local lad Leslie is delighted with his rich vein of form.

“It’s going well for me and it’s nice to be playing,” he added. “I’ve surprised myself (with the goals) but I will certainly take them.

“They are the best I’ve scored for the first team and hopefully it can continue.

“I’m just pleased to be doing well for the team.”

Meanwhile, delighted manager Paul Simpson has revealed there is a chance his squad could be bolstered by a loan signing before the weekend visit of Hereford.

“There is one thing we have got on the go that’s a little bit complicated,” he said.

“We are waiting to see whether we can do something there – hopefully over the next couple of days that might happen.

“But there is not going to be a massive amount of movement because the players that I want are not available or don’t want to come out.

“As long as the ones we have got stay fit and keep doing the things they are doing, I will be delighted with that.”

Simpson refused to be drawn on whether experienced Norwich striker Jamie Cureton is a target.
