Simpson wants more from ace Steve

Steven Leslie of Shrewsbury Town celebrates after scoring to make it 0-1
Weekend hero Steve Leslie has been urged to add consistency to his talent during Shrewsbury Town’s push for League Two promotion.
Leslie’s superb curling finish from 20 yards just after half-time brought Shrewsbury a 1-0 victory at Macclesfield on Saturday.
And manager Paul Simpson is confident the 22-year-old has the ability to produce such magic moments on a regular basis.
“I feel as though there is something there with Steve and that’s why we gave him a two-year contract in the summer,” said the Town boss.
“I just hope it doesn’t get two years down the line and we are still asking the same question of whether we are going to get it (consistently).
“He has got a fantastic left foot, he is as fit as anybody at the club and he can produce that sort of thing like he did on Saturday.
“He shows glimpses all the time and if he can do that consistently, he will be a very good player for us.”
Simpson was delighted with his side’s application in securing only a second victory in 11 attempts at Macclesfield.
And the Moss Rose success means Shrewsbury begin a home double header – against Barnet tomorrow and Hereford on Saturday – in sixth place.
“It was a very good away performance,” added Simpson.
“It was similar in a way to the Bradford game in that we rode our luck and we defended in really determined fashion early on.
“We came through that and then we managed to nullify their threat and started to play ourselves.
“In the second half, we looked a lot stronger and restricted them to very few chances and I thought it was a very good performance.
“If we want to achieve anything this season, we have to come to places like Macclesfield, roll our sleeves up match them for work rate and commitment which is what we did, and then we had the moment of quality from Steve to win us the game.”
