Sick internet users sabotage McFall tributes

Monday 8th February 2010, 11:40AM GMT.

Mcfall familyFacebook sites set up in memory of Oswestry mother and daughter Susan and Francesca McFall have been sabotaged by sick internet users.

A number of sites have been set up by friends on the social networking site who have been left shocked by the deaths of 56-year-old Susan and Francesca, 18.

But some web surfers who did not know the family have been leaving sick messages and pictures on the sites.

Friends who have been running the sites have been removing the messages as quickly as possible but they have caused huge upset.

Shropshire councillor Joyce Barrow, who went on one of the sites to leave a condolence message, said: “You can’t believe people could do such nasty things at a time like this.

“I think it is absolutely deplorable. These site are set up for people to give tributes. I don’t know how anyone can get enjoyment in putting up some nasty messages.

“I did not know the family but I thought it was appropriate to leave a message.

“This whole thing has come as a great shock to everyone in Oswestry.

“Obviously something has gone drastically wrong.

“I went to church in Trefonen yesterday and everyone’s thoughts were with the family and their relatives.

“People are very upset and sick messages on internet sites cause even more upset.”

On his Facebook message, family friend Adam Simeoni said he would be reporting those who posted the sick messages to the police.

He wrote: “I would just like to say that my friends and I have recently lost a friend and the pages we have dedicated to her have also been scarred by these people posting these evil comments.

“We are going to the police about it.

“We are trying to put a stop to this and prevent anyone else going through all the heartache that we have all experienced from these vile people.”

A tragady has already befallen these people and now idiots and ghouls are besmirching their memory and further upsetting the people who knew them.
One would hope that the authorities are suitably technologically competent to trace the morons who have made such sickening comments and to name, shame and where appropriate to prosecute these dreadful specimens of humanity

Please David. ‘authorities are suitably technologically competent to trace the morons who have made such sickening comments and to name, shame and where appropriate to prosecute these dreadful specimens of humanity’

Yes it’s bad humor that they made the comments but really? the police have much better things to do than run after /b/tards…

Agree entirely with David just what are Facebook doing to stop this type abuse? I have heard and read of many cases of cyber bullying on Facebook with little to no action being taken.

    let me have my say

In regards to davids comments,I agree with what he has said, I also feel the authorities should also block the users altogether, put a block on them ever opening a e-mail account.(I am sure it can be done) so that these small minded idiots they will never get to hurt other peoples feelings again .

“so that these small minded idiots they will never get to hurt other peoples feelings again.”

Right, because the police haven’t already got enough to do? Oh no, end of the world, someone’s feelings are hurt.

    My condolences to the family.

These kind of things can be programmed to either have freedom to comment or not – maybe people should push for FB to have some form of control to the page owner whether the comment is seen or not, but FB. Otherwise an open arena is not the place to leave for comments.

The internet is incredibly efficient at bringing together a lot of the world – however, that includes a small percentage of those who like to hurt or act in nasty manner and that’s a lot of people globally.

I guess in this sad situation that people *assume* others feel the same as them, which is not true, ever.

    My condolences to the family.
