Prolific burglars locked up

Monday 8th February 2010, 10:16AM GMT.

Police today unmasked six of Shropshire’s most prolific burglars who have been jailed for nearly 17 years between them after bringing misery to scores of residents across the county and Wales.

In the latest crackdown on burglary police chiefs in Telford released pictures to the Shropshire Star of the offenders.

The six were revealed as detectives lifted the lid on how they are fighting domestic burglary.

They include Dean Paul Coppenhall, 25, of Little Dawley, Telford, who was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for three offences of burglary.

David James Lloyd, 23, of Newdale, Telford, was convicted of 23 offences of dwelling burglary and asked for a further five offences of burglary to be taken into consideration. He was jailed for three years and four months.

Gary Lee Wynne, 37, of Shrewsbury, was given a 30-month prison sentence for two burglary offences.

Acting Chief Superintendent Jim Tozer said: “Burglary is not happening all the time, but it happens and and any burglary is a personal insult to me.”

Never mind the minimal amount of burglaries, WHAT ABOUT THE DRUGS PROBLEMS WHICH ARE HUGE !! Drugs are the central route to most of societies problems along with alcohol, I know there is little you can do about Alcohol, Get rid of the drugs please Mr Police bossman.

Sadly these sentences are little more than ‘Window Dressing’. Any time involved ‘on remand’ will be deducted and the usual bribe of time off for good behaviour and release on licence mean that this trash will be back on the streets before you know it. The public are being ‘conned’.

Take the users off the streets and the dealers will have nobody to sell to.

Spencer…where do you suggest all these users are put? Are they going to be locked up and punished indefinitely for addiction? Whilst most burglars, shoplifters and acquisitive offenders are drug dependent it is also true that a significant number of users do not commit crime. I presume by your suggestion that offender or not will be an irrelevance…until our taxes are hiked to fund any secure placements.

17 years between 6 people is not much! That works out between 2 and 3 years for each of these criminals. Like Popski said above, after good behaviour etc. these criminals will be back on our streets and ready to reoffend in 12 months. Although I’m sure they will be fully rehabilitated during this time, and if they do reoffend that will only be due to the poverty in which they are forced to live due to inadequate benefits!

I’m just wondering how many crimes I could get away with before getting caught. Would a 12 month holiday/sentence would be worth taking considering the profits that could be made from crime before actually getting sentenced.

Crime doesn’t pay! Have you seen the poverty drug dealers have to live in during recession? I hear they are driving diesel Range Rovers now as they can’t afford petrol!

Well do you have any suggestions as to how we catch the dealers because nobody seems to have sorted that one out yet..

In my opinion, drug dealer perse and drug takers who are convicted of crimes to feed there habit, should not only loose there assets, they should be put to death, yes, I know they need help and we should feel sorry for them…
They have no feeling for the people they steal from, so could someone please explain why we should spend thousands of pounds a month, keeping them in prison, when a 22caliber bullet costs but 3p and trust me after one/two of them (6p) they tend NOT to re-offend. So thousands of pounds against-6p, No-brainer!
Think of the good, the monies saved could be put too. Pensions and health are but two that spring to mind but there is so much more
