Blog: What a difference a week makes!

Seven days ago AFC Telford United fans were wondering whether the management team should be replaced, whether the players cared for the club – indeed wondering whether the Bucks might be sucked into a relegation battle, writes Alex James.
Fast forward to 4.50pm on Saturday afternoon and everything was well with the world.
Telford had just completed their second 5-1 victory in a matter of days and suddenly optimism had returned.
And with two home games coming up this week against struggling Gainsborough Trinity and Redditch United, most fans are predicting a six point haul which could move the Bucks into the play-off places.
But just as the poor run of form at the start of the New Year didn’t mean we were watching the worst Telford team in history, two five goal victories doesn’t suddenly make this side a sure-fire bet to reach the play-offs.
It’s important to maintain a sense of realism, and in the ever fickle world of football that is easier said than done.
Many fans, up and down the country and not just at the New Bucks Head, are either convinced their side are relegation fodder, or that they’re a dead-cert for promotion, and the viewpoint varies from week-to-week.
In the interests of being objective, the Bucks have five more games to play this month, those two home fixtures followed by three away trips.
And with plenty of other sides still holding games in hand, having a glance at the league table in three weeks time might give us a more realistic impression of where Telford will finish.
If they can get through February unbeaten then we really can start to believe we can gatecrash the play-offs.
Almost every season a side puts together a remarkable late run, sneaks into the top play offs, and the momentum then carries them to the final and, ultimately, promotion.
And with a favourable run-in, the omens are good for Telford.
Of the six sides currently above them in the table the Bucks have to play just one – Eastwood at home in mid-March – leaving them with every chance of breaking into the play off pack.
But to talk about it now might just be tempting fate.
