Grieving friends and family of a teenage girl and her mother found murdered in their Shropshire home were today waiting to hear how and why they died.
The bodies of Francesca McFall, 18, and her 56-year-old mother Susan were found by police at the bungalow in Hampton Road, Oswestry yesterday.
It is believed they were killed by Francesca’s father Hugh, who then killed himself.
The body of the 48-year-old businessman was found by detectives at the office of his floral wholesalers in nearby St Martins.
People who knew the family, described as close-knit and loving, have been left stunned by the deaths and unable to offer any explanation for why it may have happened.
A cordon thrown up around the house had today been removed, but police refused to say whether the women’s bodies had been removed from the house. Mr McFall’s body was removed from the wholesalers yesterday.
Police have also refused to comment on how the mother and daughter were killed.
Prayers for the family will be held at Oswestry’s parish church tomorrow morning.
Detective Superintendent Sheila Thornes, leading the investigation, said officers believed the deaths to be a family tragedy.
She said: “This is an extremely tragic case and the investigation into the circumstances is still in its early stages.
“However I can confirm that although a number of witnesses are still to be seen, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.”
She said a Home Office pathologist would be conducting post mortem examinations over the weekend to establish the cause of death.
More than 40 West Mercia police officers are working on the case and a report on the circumstances will be prepared for the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery.
The police cordon sealing off Hampton Road has now been removed and a steady stream of well-wishers continued to come and go today leaving floral tributes at the gates of the family home. Francesca, known to friends as Frankie, was a sixth form student at Oswestry School.
She told friends on social networking site Facebook she was “buzzing” ahead of a Valentine’s ball at the school due to take place last night.
The ball was cancelled as a mark of respect and Max Payne, 17, who was due to take Frankie to the event said he was “lost for words” in light of the tragedy.
He described Frankie – who was also formerly head girl at The Marches School in Oswestry – as “a bright and beautiful girl who was always full of fun”.
A tribute group – In Memory of Frankie McFall – was set up on Facebook yesterday and already had more than 700 members. One tribute, from Marcus Rheade-Edwards, read: “What very very sad news, and being related through marriage, makes it even more shocking, an absolutely unbelievable tragedy. GOD BLESS”
