The Hairy Bikers are riding in for flower show
Saturday 6th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
TV chefs the Hairy Bikers are set to get pulses revving at the Shrewsbury Flower Show after they were today named as one of the star attractions at this year’s event.
Following on from the visit of fellow celebrity chef James Martin, the northern motorbike enthusiasts who travel the length and breadth of Britain in search of culinary adventures are set to wow the crowds at the show in August.
The Hairy Bikers, Si King and Dave Myers, will be situated in the Marches Food Hall, where their infectious enthusiasm and natural charm will be on show as they present three cookery demonstrations in the purpose-built Cookery Theatre each day.
Dave said: “It’s great to be re-visiting Shropshire, especially an event as colourful as the Shrewsbury Flower Show where people can demonstrate local crafts and skills.”
Si said: “We will visit local food producers at the show and cook some traditional favourites on location in front of an audience and hope to get lots of feedback.”
Over the past 123 years, the Shrewsbury Flower Show has become a huge event.
In addition to its three million blooms, outdoor show gardens and large horticultural section, there is a large events arena featuring equestrian competitions and displays, extensive children’s entertainment, large variety of exhibitors from arts and crafts to home baking and even a traditional bees and honey section for the growing number of people establishing their own apiaries.
Lieutenant Colonel Mike Carver, chairman of Shropshire Horticultural Society, organisers of Shrewsbury Flower Show, said: “We aim to exceed expectations this year with more people than ever before visiting the show.
“The headline grabbing Hairy Bikers will make a welcome attraction bringing their own blend of humour and warmth to the show.
“Combine this with our winning formula of floral wealth and original arts and crafts and it really is set to be the best show yet.”
