Burst pipe closes school

Thursday 4th February 2010, 3:03PM GMT.

Classroom topA Shropshire school shut today sending its 1,300 pupils home after a burst water pipe saw the main supply cut off.

Idsall School, in Shifnal, was forced to close its doors this afternoon after contractors working outside the school struck a water pipe.

Tony Parker, headteacher at Idsall, said he took the decision to send children home because there was no water for the toilets.

He said: “The water was cut off this afternoon so we had absolutely no water coming into the school and we are a big school and we could not use our toilets.”

Simon Alton, spokesman for Shropshire Council, said: “School buses will be collecting students at 1pm.

“Any children who are unable to get home will be able to stay in the school hall until parents can collect them.”
