Mick McCarthyBoss Mick McCarthy has pledged he will sort out the problems highlighted by Wolves’ dismal exit from the FA Cup at Crystal Palace.

His Barclays Premier League strugglers were beaten 3-1 at Selhurst Park to miss out on a fifth round clash with Aston Villa at Molineux.

Now McCarthy must lift his side for a vital showdown with Birmingham at St Andrews on Sunday.

After a lengthy dressing room inquest following the game last night, he refused to criticise his players in public but added there would be plenty more said behind closed doors.

“Palace made it into a Cup tie and it looked like they wanted it more than us – they’ve beaten us and beaten us well,” he said.

“I’ve had my pound of flesh in there (the dressing room) and I’m going to have another one when we get back into training on Thursday.

“We’ll sort it out between us, I will have my discussions behind closed doors with the lads.”

McCarthy was disappointed after what he had seen as encouraging displays in the recent draws with Hull and Liverpool.

“I didn’t see it coming,” he added.

“We won’t put it down to a bad night at the office, we’ll analyse it and have a look at it and decide what we can do to move on with the Birmingham game in mind.

“The goals were schoolboy defensive errors.”

He will now be looking for a response from his players at St Andrews on Sunday, and is hoping Kevin Doyle, Matt Jarvis and Stephen Ward, who all missed out last night through injury, will be fit

“Birmingham is not going to be the easiest place to go and put it out of our system but I don’t expect us to play like this again,” he added.
