Letter: In answer to the points made by Bev McCarthy made in her letter printed on January 21, the BBC stating that the “last decade was the warmest on record” does not conflict with my statement that we are in a global cooling stage.

1998 was the peak of the latest global warming period. From 1999 until 2005 the global temperature dropped too slightly to be recognised but the drop in the last five years has been noticeable and is accelerating.

Thus the average temperature for the last 10 years may be the highest since records began but this does not mean that the earth is not cooling now. Incidently the BBC is threatening to take the weather forecasting contract away from the Meteorological Office because it has been so wrong in the last few years. The Met office programmed its computer based on carbon dioxide causing heating, it doesn’t.

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is not composed of scientists, it is made up of politicians and civil servants. The chairman, Dr Rajendra Pachauri (an ex-railway engineer turned economist) is now an extremely wealthy man because of the carbon scare.

He has just had to apologise for issuing a report in 2007 that the Himalayan glaciers would disappear by 2035. When Dr Vijay Raina, India’s senior glaciologist published a report that showed that the rate of retreat of the glaciers had not changed for at least 50 years Dr Raina accused him of doing voodoo science.

As in the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes, people are reluctant to appear to be silly and tell the truth.

Because of this we are ruining the world’s economy, erecting useless wind turbines on beauty spots.

I will not contest temperature trends in this forum as I do not know enough about them. However, to state that carbon dioxide does not cause heating is simply wrong. I would not wish your readers to be misinformed by this letter. Science as follows:

The sun heats the Earth because the latter absorbs radiation in the ultraviolet spectrum from the sun. The Earth absorbs some of the heat and transmits the rest as radiation in infra-red spectrum. Carbon dioxide absorbs radiation in the infra-red spectrum and therefore prevents heat from escaping out of the atmosphere. This is known as the ‘greenhouse effect’ as glass does much the same thing in one’s garden. As such, an increase in carbon dioxide emissions and the resulting increase in the atmosphere will trap more heat and the temperature of the Earth will rise. Fact.

The economy will be regenerated through the manufacturing of the technology involved with green energy. The supplies of fossil fuels will run out soon. Fact. Whether or not temperatures are rising significantly, we need sustainable forms of energy generation and we need it quickly. In case you were not aware, future plans for wind turbines are based on offshore windfarms and not ones in your lovely back garden.

In general we are thoughtless consumers and it would do us no harm to think critically about our energy consumption and generation.

    Point made.

Yes well Peter, that is the whole problem is it not, the argument the warmists advance, is on the one hand far too simplistic and on the other not supported by recent trends, or the other rather inconvenient fact that c02 rises have historically followed periods of Global Warming, and not preceded it, as would be the case were the theory correct.

The argument is simplistic because it assumes the heat from the sun is consistent or not relevant and that everything else in the climate system will remain the same, or will not also react to warming, other systems such as clouds water vapour rain also greatly affect temperature either positively or negatively, in fact water vapour which is by far the largest green house gas of all is largely ignored because it is no fully understood.

This is why the activists have had to resort to scare tactics and deception on such a massive scale in order to prop up the failing theory! No the polar pears are not in decline, the Himalayan glaciers will not melt in 35 years time Ect. Ect. This is why the Met office is having to review the whole body of its records, why the University of East Anglia climate unit is under investigation and its boss suspended. Why the so called Hockey Stick Team manipulate data and press scientific journals not to publish non supportive papers. Why there are so many unsubstantiated non peer reviewed, non scientific claims, in the IPPC reports and why there are mounting calls for the very wealthy businessman and chairman of the IPPC Dr Pachauri to resign.

It would seem the whole multi million Dollar Global Warming industry is based on nothing more a very simplistic theory that requires immense corruption, lies deceit and very dodgy science to support it.

I assume this is Peter 10/1/50 The earth and nature are so complex I defy anyone to say with absolute confidence what causes what and what proceeds what, there have been so many untruths put out by climate geeks that it is almost impossible to sort the wheat from the chaff .One thing that can be said with certainty is an awful lot of money will be made in the climate game and even more in the carbon trading .Wind generators are not efficent, of course manufacturers of these will make loads of dosh .Where will the back up for these come from ,will we be buying from French nuclear power stations .More research into nuclear fusion needs to be done there is no radioactive waste produced during fusion Perhaps a miracle may occur .We must conserve energy ,we must stop destroying rain forest, in fact start planting millions of trees .The main thing is to keep an open mind and keep a sharp eye on the con men.
