Four-star Danny is thrilled with reward
Wednesday 3rd February 2010, 10:13AM GMT.
Four-midable AFC Telford United striker Danny Carey-Bertram was today revelling in his goalscoring heroics, admitting: “I couldn’t feel any better.”
The 25-year-old bagged a fabulous four goals last night as the Bucks thrashed Vauxhall Motors 5-1 in their first home game of 2010.
Carey-Bertram had previously only scored one other goal all season, in the FA Cup victory against Pegasus Juniors.
But his efforts last night have instantly catapulted him to second in the club’s goal charts for the season – level on five with Phil Trainer and Liam Blakeman and behind Andy Brown, who got the other against Vauxhall to take his total to 10.
“I couldn’t feel any better at the moment, it’s been a long time coming,” said Carey-Bertram.
“I would have been happy with just the first one, but I’ll definitely take four.
“A lot of the chances I scored last season were like the ones I scored last night. They were dropping for me, and it shows I was in the right areas at the right times.
“I have scored four in a game before, but not for a good few years.
“It’s boosted my confidence loads.
“I never let my head go down, I kept plugging away and got my reward last night.”
Coach Steve Wynn, representing the management after the game, was refusing to get carried away by Telford’s first Blue Square North victory since Boxing Day.
But he did admit it could only help to restore belief into the side.
“It’s a start, that’s all it is,” said Wynn. “Football’s a funny game and confidence is so important.
“The lads have been working hard and they needed that. Hopefully it will be fresh in their minds on Saturday and we can go up to Droylsden and give it a good go.”
