Telford hope to start run of form

Tuesday 2nd February 2010, 12:19PM GMT.

Lee CarterAFC Telford United are looking to end a run of three consecutive defeats when they host struggling Vauxhall Motors in their first home game of 2010 tonight.

Saturday’s clash with Eastwood Town was postponed due to a part-frozen playing surface, but chairman Lee Carter insisted no pitch inspection would be needed ahead of this evening’s fixture.

And Telford will be eager to rediscover the winning touch against a Vauxhall side who have not won a Blue Square North match since October 17 – losing eight of the 11 they have played since then.

The Merseyside outfit are propping up the table at present, but Telford boss Rob Smith is warning against any complacency.

“They lost on Saturday (5-0 at home to Redditch), but they got decent draws with Workington and Alfreton in the two games before that,” he said.

“I’m not convinced their form is that bad, despite the results, and if they get into their stride they can play some good football.

“Both sides are going into it tonight desperate for a win and we have to focus on getting on a run.

“This season we’ve not performed on a regular basis, but if we get a win tonight it gives us something to build on.”

Young Shrewsbury forward Andre Gray’s loan spell has expired and though the Bucks are interested in taking him for a third month.

Bad weather throughout January meant Gray was only able to feature in two games during the second month of his loan spell, starting in the defeat at Stafford then coming on as a substitute at Southport.

Midfielders Liam Blakeman (ankle) and Chris Nurse (hamstring) and skipper Stuart Whitehead (hamstring) will all face late fitness tests.
