Police at scene of crash for witnesses
Monday 1st February 2010, 11:27AM GMT.
Police were returning to the scene of a fatal crash today, a week after a Shropshire teenager died.
Sophie Rowlands, 18, died in the collision, which happened at about 5pm on January 25 just south of Shawbury on the A53.
Her blue Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a Volvo grain lorry.
Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses exactly one week after the crash with officers set to visit the scene between about 4.30pm and 6pm.
Although not stopping vehicles due to the speed of the road and busy location, it was hoped drivers would pull over and speak to the officers if they have any information they feel might help the investigation.
Constable Andy Burrell, the investigating officer, said a number of witnesses had already been spoken to but police were still keen to hear from any others.
He said: “We have a number of witnesses who were travelling in the direction of Shrewsbury when the crash happened but at the present time do not have any who were going in the opposite direction towards Shawbury.
“I am keen to hear from anybody who might have seen any of the vehicles involved being driven in the area immediately prior to the crash or who saw the collision itself.
“We will be on the A53 this tea-time to allow any drivers who might be on their way home from work to stop and speak to us.”
