Crier’s lottery shout
Monday 1st February 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
The world’s tallest town crier will be urging people to try to make history and buy a EuroMillions ticket which could net them the biggest lottery prize ever in the UK.
Shrewsbury’s Martin Wood, who is 7ft 2in tall, will be shouting the odds throughout the town and telling people about the estimated £85 million jackpot on Wednesday.
If a single ticket holder wins the prize it would be the biggest ever paid out in the UK, and Mr Wood said he hoped somebody from the Shrewsbury area could win it.
Mr Wood will be in the Claremont Street and Pride Hill area as part of the National Lottery organised publicity event. Today he jokingly said: “I’m hoping somebody from Shrewsbury will win it and if they do I would like 10 per cent.”
He added: “I’ll be in Claremont and Pride Hill for about an hour. I did a shout for them about five or six years ago when they did another large lottery and they contacted me again and asked me to if I would do another one.
“They seem to enjoy coming to Shrewsbury to do these sorts of things so I said yes.”
The draw for the EuroMillions £85 million “Mega Jackpot” will take place on Friday.
