Bucks cope despite lack of home action
Monday 1st February 2010, 11:24AM GMT.
Director Dave Topping is hopeful that AFC Telford United’s long wait for a home game in 2010 will end this week – and issued an upbeat bulletin on their financial health.
Telford have not been able to take any gate receipts since the 2-1 win over Stafford Rangers way back on Boxing Day.
They suffered more frustration on Saturday as the scheduled Blue Square North clash with Eastwood was postponed after an 11.30am pitch inspection.
But Topping insists the club’s finances are in a healthy enough state to cope, and is optimistic about the prospects for tomorrow night’s game with Vauxhall Motors.
“Like every club, you need to have a regular income coming in – but we have other finance streams available and other customers paying us,” said Topping.
“We’re not totally dependant on gate receipts so there are no major issues. We’d rather be in a more comfortable position than we are, but we are not overly concerned.
“We had a lot of volunteers down on Saturday and got the pitch covered with the frost sheets, so we’re very hopeful that there will be no problems tomorrow night.”
Meanwhile, chairman Lee Carter issued a public apology to the club’s supporters after Saturday’s game was called off.
Telford called a pitch inspection on Saturday morning, citing an “unforeseen frost” and Carter admitted it had been an error to leave the playing surface uncovered overnight.
In a short statement on the club website, he said: “Ultimately the responsibility for these issues rests with me.
“There is no point in trying to make excuses. We got it wrong, end of story, and feel rotten for it.”
