National hero Brookshaw has manager’s role

Former Grand National winning trainer Steve Brookshaw is back in racing – although not under Rules.
Brookshaw, who handed in his licence several months ago, is the manager at the pre-training yard at Shropshire-based Mickley Stud, as well as training a few point-to-point horses.
Brookshaw won the 1997 Grand National with Lord Gyllene from his Preston-on-Severn base near Shrewsbury, and the owner and driving force behind Mickley Stud, Richard Kent, said: “He is a brilliant man to have around the place with his knowledge and experience.
“Steve has a few young horses of his own, but he came to the Stud after he had handed in his licence and he looks after the pre-training routines of the Flat and National Hunt horses.”
Based not far from Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, Mickley Stud is also involved in a newly formed racing syndicate, Multiplex Racing.
They already have two fillies that are by Multiplex who will go into training with Richard Fahey and Clive Cox.
Mickley Stud currently houses four class stallions in Beat All, Central Park, Multiplex and 2008/2009 Champion National Hunt sire Overbury.
In 2010 the stallion team will grow to five with the addition of smart sprinter Captain Gerrard.
