It’s Davis again for Gunnell

Saturday 30th January 2010, 12:35PM GMT.

Steve Davis Snooker legend Steve Davis stands between Shropshire’s Adrian Gunnell and a first ever appearance at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre for the World Championships.

Gunnell, 37, must win two qualifying matches to finally break his Crucible duck – and the second would be against six-time world champion Davis.

The pair have met twice in big matches in recent years, with Davis coming out on top on both occasions.

He beat Gunnell 5-4 in the last 16 of the Grand Prix in 2008, and ran out a 9-7 winner when the pair met in qualifying for the UK Championship later that year.

The qualifiers take place at the start of March at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, with Gunnell having to first beat one of Joe Delaney, Stephen Rowlings or Sam Baird to set up the clash with the man who has won more titles than anyone.

Before then, Telford-based Gunnell will be in action at China Open qualifying next week at Prestatyn.
