Blast victims in get-together at fundraiser
Saturday 30th January 2010, 10:14AM GMT.
Victims of the Shrewsbury explosion are planning to get together for a public reunion in the town tonight.
Scott Godbold, Sam Devine-Turner and Annie Davies are all hoping to attend a fundraising event at the Severn Warehouse and Cellars, in Howard Street, to meet up with friends and thank those who sent messages of support while they recovered from their injuries in hospital.
The three friends were all in a first-floor flat at the corner of Bridge Street and Smithfield Road when it collapsed in the blast on January 3.
The fourth person who was in the flat, 19-year-old Sarah Pearse, remains in Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
Theatre Severn panto star Kiley McDonnell, who suffered spinal injuries in the blast and is described as “stable”, was yesterday transferred to a hospital closer to his home in the south of England.
Earlier this week Annie said she was looking forward to going to the fundraising event.
Sam’s dad Paul said his daughter was also expected to attend.
Paul Bailey, landlord of the Yorkshire House pub, in St Mary’s Place, said he had organised the event because Sam worked at the pub and the other three were all regulars. Scott had also been set to start working at the pub.
Mr Bailey said he had teamed up with Mike Philbin, owner of the Severn Warehouse and Cellars, the former Buttermarket nightclub, for the event to raise funds for the seriously injured victims of the blast.
The gig will start at about 8pm and will feature music from five bands including Hot Rod 55, Bad Hair Day and Hello Cleveland.
A friend of Scott’s David Miles is due to undergo a full body wax on the night to further boost funds.
