Wem appealing to FA

Friday 29th January 2010, 12:21PM GMT.

Football pitchWem Town have launched an appeal to the English Football Association after being thrown out of the Shropshire Challenge Cup.

The north Shropshire side were effectively kicked out after refusing to play Market Drayton on Tuesday night. The quarter-final was due to be staged on January 9, but the game was postponed because of the weather.

Wem say competition rules state the game must be played on a Saturday or a mutually agreed date, but the Shropshire FA set a midweek date for the rearranged game as Drayton will not be released by the UniBond League on another Saturday.

“We have sent all the information down to the the English FA and we will see what that brings,” said Wem secretary Cryil Pritchard.
