A new hotline has been set up to tackle Telford’s battered roads after the cold snap lead to a soar in the number of potholes.

Several craters have appeared on roads across the town leaving many drivers with flat tyres.

Telford & Wrekin Council will launch its pothole busters hotline on Monday. The number is 01952 384000 and the service will be open from 8am to 7pm weekdays.

At last night’s meeting of full council, Councillor Adrian Lawrence said: “It has been very, very difficult conditions but we have not suffered as much as other boroughs.

“There’s been a long standing issue with potholes and the weather has not done it any favours.”

Councillor Lawrence added: “We want the public to help us by being our eyes – because the residents usually know where the problems are. You spot the pothole, tell us where it is and we’ll fill it.

“We have inspectors out every day on the roads but we need your help reporting them.”

Councillor Angela McClements said she was not convinced the scheme would work.

She said: “This is just a quick fix. It’s not just the bad weather, it has been like this the past few years.”

Councillor Lawrence said the council was looking at fixing the potholes permanently.

what will it be a quick dollop of tarmac flattened then left to turn into another pothole next time we have frost?

Oh – i now see, I wondered why anyone would want to talk to a pothole! ;-)

Why don’t the council just put up a webpage each day listing what roads are being sorted out so people know whats going on (and that *something* is being done). That’s communication but not as they know it.

The PotHotline will probably get more calls than the coneline though!

Better still why dosent the Council give us all a bag of tarmac and we can do it ourselves and cut out the middle man!

Don’t give them ideas, soon all the empty salt bins will be filled with tarmac for DIY pothole repairs as they disband, even further, the pothole repairs.
