Road shut as three injured in crash

Thursday 28th January 2010, 10:13AM GMT.

Three people were taken to hospital following a three-car crash near Bridgnorth which left a main road closed for more than six hours.

Police sealed off the A454 Bridgnorth Road in both directions following the collision at around 10.45pm yesterday at the junction with the B4176 at Rudge Heath.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and and incident support officer to the scene.

Service spokesman Murray McGregor said one of the cars involved, which lost a wheel in the smash, was carrying two men and two women, all in their late teens or early 20s and from the Wolverhampton area.

He said one of the men suffered facial injuries and he was put in a neck brace and then on a spinal board.

One of the women also suffered facial injuries and she and the injured man were taken by ambulance to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for treatment.

Mr McGregor said neither the male driver nor the second woman were injured.

He added: “A second car suffered significant front and offside damage. A local woman in her 60s in the vehicle was immobilised on a spinal board as a precaution and taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.”

Mr McGregor said an elderly couple in the third car involved were not injured.

The A454 was eventually reopened at 5am today.
