A Shropshire pub landlady is selling the lease to her pub after claiming that she is fed up with the problems she claims are blighting the industry.

Shane Game, of The Boars Head, in Belle Vue Road, Shrewsbury, said she still enjoyed loyal support from customers but claimed she was having to work long-hours for no reward.

Ms Game, a single mother of three, said she was being forced to sell beer at £2.80 a pint when rivals were able to sell it much cheaper.

The 44-year-old said she was hoping for £20,000 for the sale of the tenancy agreement.

She said: “I have put the pub up for sale. I have had enough and there is only so much a person can take.”

She said she had been at the pub for 16 months and during this time she has had to work extremely hard. Ms Game added: “I was working so much that my kids hardly saw me over Christmas.”

She said it was still a profitable pub for its owners Marston’s, who were today unavailable for comment.

However she said she struggled to make anything for herself because she was unable to match the beer prices of rival pubs.

She said: “The beer I sell is £2.80 as I have to pay £300 for 22 gallons from the brewery. If I was able to buy it out from independent suppliers it would be something like £180 or £200.”

Ms Game said other places were able to sell beer for cheaper, because they were “managed” with the brewery paying somebody a certain amount a week.

She said: “Because I’m a tenant I’m liable for everything.”

Ms Game said the only pubs that were able to survive were freeholds or those managed for a brewery.

£2.80 a pint = £22.40 a gallon, imagine if they priced petrol like this
Beer, Water + a few plants and left, Petrol drilled out of the ground transported miles subject to many chemical processes. Who is making a massive profit?

Its a shame a landlady has to sell her pub because she is tied to the brewery . Its just greed.
