Futures on line at Bucks says chairman Lee

Lee CarterChairman Lee Carter today paved the way for a vital final three months at AFC Telford United by declaring: “We are all fighting for our futures – and that includes me.”

After losing in the Blue Square North play-offs for each of the last two seasons, the Bucks have an uphill fight to extend their season for a third campaign.

Telford are currently ninth and require a long, successful run to make up the necessary ground on the teams above them to break into the top five.

And Carter admitted all involved in the club have plenty to prove over the remainder of the season.

“We are all fighting for our futures at this football club and that includes me,” he said.

“It’s a big test for me, a big test for the other directors, a big test for the Trust, a big test for the management and a big test for the players.

“We all have to prove to the supporters we are the best people to be in the job and that should be the thought which drives us on every time we wake up in the morning.”

Meanwhile, Carter has urged Telford supporters to turn out in force for Saturday’s game with Eastwood – their first at the New Bucks Head since Boxing Day.

The scheduled games against Gainsborough and Farlsey throughout January have been postponed, and Carter admitted a bumper crowd would provide a welcome boost to revenue.

“We have had to operate for the last month without a penny coming in through games and that is very tough,” he said.

“We have got through it as best we can and now hopefully we can have a really good turn-out on Saturday.

“Whatever objections people may have, it’s all about supporting the club on Saturday.

“It’s no different now to when the new club started with the first game – the club needs the fans.”

Fans inevitably drift away if the club are struggling, and with the revolving door of players rather than a fixed line up, several very poor performances and not one striker in the top 30 in the same division its Catch 22 – put the talent on the field, fans will follow try to do it on the cheap you’ll loose many for good as the old regime found out…
