MCC’s Taylor in the pink

Wednesday 27th January 2010, 9:52AM GMT.

Former Shropshire cricket ace James Taylor has been selected to play for the MCC in the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season – although this year there’s a twist.

Leicestershire batsman Taylor, who went to Shrewsbury School, is in the MCC side to face county champions Durham.

But this year the game will take place in Abu Dhabi rather than Lord’s, and it will also serve as a first class trial for matches under floodlights using pink balls.

Taylor enjoyed a successful first full season with Leicestershire in the County Championship with his form earning him a call-up to the England Lions squad this winter.
