Wednesday 27th January 2010, 1:48PM GMT.
The first chief executive of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council has died at home at the age of 83.
Leslie Beesley held the post at the now disbanded borough council from 1974 until his retirement in 1983.
Today his family paid tribute to the family man who died on January 20 from complications following a heart attack and stroke.
His wife Susan said he would be remembered for always being there for his four sons Jeremy, Martin, Christopher and Simon, his six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr Beesley, who was born in Wandsworth in 1926, went to school in Battersea before joining the Royal Marines in 1944 on a university programme.
He married his first wife Anne in 1951 in East Sussex and had four sons. They moved to Shrewsbury in 1973. Anne died in 1990.
Mrs Beesley, who he married in 1996, said she thought he would be remembered in a positive light by people who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at St Chad’s Church, in St Chad’s Terrace, on Tuesday at 1pm.
