Sex lessons for 11 year olds plan
Tuesday 26th January 2010, 8:15AM GMT.
Children as young as 11 should be given lessons on the importance of marriage, according to new Government guidance. It also recommends children as young as seven be taught about sex and domestic violence.
The new guide, which will be sent to all schools in England contains advice to teachers on how to teach sex and relationships to pupils.
It is the first time the advice has been updated since 2000.
Today’s proposals, which are being put out to consultation, say that 11 to 14-year-olds should learn about “the nature and importance of marriage and of stable relationships for family life and bringing up children.”
The guide says children as young as 14 should be given lessons on parenting, and asked questions such as “What are the responsibilities of being a parent and what skills do I need?”
The guide covers sex and relationship education for five to 16-year-olds, with recommendations that teachers ask children as young as five to think about questions such as “Where do babies come from?” and “What are the differences between girls’ and boys’ bodies?”

Considering that the average age of menarche is declining, it makes sense to try to explain to children what is happening to the bodies before it happens. 11 years old might be too late in many cases.

Great idea. No point in covering drugs and rock ‘n’ roll though as some 11 year olds are well into that already.
