More huge potholes have been reported on Telford’s roads as a result of the big freeze.

Readers responded after Kerrie Vaughan, 31, burst one of her front tyres on a pothole the “size of a crater” in Waterloo Road, Ketley.

Andrew Jones of Bridle Road, in Madeley, said there was a pothole equally as big in his street outside Madeley Nursery.

He also criticised the state of the road at the entrance to Joseph Rich Avenue, off Bridle Road.

He said: “The surfaces on both roads are a disgrace and you can’t even use the excuse that it’s the frost that has done the damage.

“It might have made things worse but the road surface has been breaking up for years and should have been repaired properly before it got this bad.”

Mr Jones said he had reported the potholes to the council but was still awaiting a response.

An anonymous reader contacted us to point out that there were potholes of all shapes and sizes along Wombridge Road between its junction with Wrockwardine Wood Way and Trench Road.

The council has vowed to fix any potholes branded a hazard within 24 hours.

I noticed in your article it says “if they are branded a hazard, the council will repair them within 24 hours”. So it’s up to the Council to determine wether it’s a hazard to drivers or not. So don’t hold your breath that the pothole you report will be fixed.
It’s not just the potholes that are dangerous, it’s the manhole covers that have sunk too. A prime example being one on the island by Frankie and Bennys. If you’re coming out of there you can’t miss it.
These potholes have been there way before the bad weather. Quentin Wilson said our roads are worse than third world countries…..great!

By far the worst place I have seen for potholes both this winter and last is the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The road past the Outpatients and Maternity entrances has dozens of holes, some over 6 inches deep. Cars are swerving to avoid them and when it rains they fill with water causing huge puddles that cover the whole road. Of course a blatant danger to ambulances, patients and visitors. Not the council’s responsibility but yet another shameful piece of NHS neglect.

I have raised the issues of waterloo road numerous times last year and failed to get any response. There are defects such as street and signage lighting out for over 12 months now. The road markings have worn away (along with the road surface) some surface defects have been there for 3 years since Severn Trent dug up the road and the ‘repairs’ they left are a hazard to motorcyclists. The Road surface is continually filthy, and I could go on. Not to mention repeated damage it has caused to my car. We are wasting our time trying to raise these issues as they are ignored. If any councillor with their salt contacts me and does something, I will be amazed!

James The NHS is finitely funded and people don’t like paying more local taxes. If you object to how they spend their money, why don’t you attempt to get involved with the way the RSH is run and try and help them mend their ways.

Perhaps a parking fee shouldn’t go to any commercial organisation but run locally and help fund the whole of the road system as well as parking on that site?

Don’t you think it is nice of the council to highlight all the pot holes for us, NOW we can all see that the safest route to take is on the path!
