Blast victim home for weekend
Monday 25th January 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
One of the victims of the Shrewsbury blast was allowed to return home on “weekend leave” as the injured 19-year-old continues her recovery.
Annie Davies is at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital following the January 3 blast, but doctors gave her permission to return home briefly for the first time at the end of last week.
Today the hospital said Annie had returned and was in a stable condition.
Nineteen-year-old Sarah Pearse, who was also injured in the explosion at the corner of Smithfield Road and Bridge Street, was also in a stable condition today.
Kiley McDonnell, one of the stars of Theatre Severn’s Peter Pan, is still being treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Sarah’s boyfriend Scott Godbold, 23, and friend Sam Devine-Turner, 19, have both been released from hospital.
Shrewsbury’s town centre is starting to return to normal with a further traffic restriction which was put in place in the aftermath of the blast being lifted last night. The right turn lane from Bridge Street onto Smithfield Road eastbound is now available for through traffic as normal.
Temporary traffic management, in place along Roushill Bank and Claremont Street, was also due to be lifted today and the traffic flow expected to return to normal.
Smithfield Road and Mardol Quay westbound between the Roushill and Raven Meadows turn and the Welsh Bridge remain closed until further notice while essential works take place.
Gary Parton, the co-ordination manager for the central area at Shropshire Council, said: “Motorists wishing to travel through town are advised to use alternative routes such as the A5112.”

The explosion in Shrewsbury town was a terrible event, can anyone explain why it is taking so long to open the road over the Welsh Bridge, I dread to think if a major incident effected Shrewsbury would the roads ever open again.

If it had been an act of terrorism then the insurance and liability would have been simple. In this case I suspect there has had to be a very thorough investigation.
I hope your visit home was helpful to you Annie.
All your friends have had you and the others badly injured in their thoughts.
