Titans urged to ‘put on a show’

Friday 22nd January 2010, 10:10AM GMT.

Telford Titans have been urged to show their play-off credentials tomorrow night with a much-needed win at Trafford Metros – and then “put on a show” at home to Flintshire Freeze just 24 hours later.

Last Sunday’s defeat to Coventry Blaze means victory in Manchester is even more important for the Shropshire men as they look to secure at least fourth place in the ENL 1 standings.

Trafford’s current position of seventh in the table – they are just four points behind Telford – has given the game extra spice as coach Dave Fielder bids to open up a gap to the chasing teams.

He said: “They are second bottom, but are on 11 points while we are on 15, so it is very close.

“If we lose, there will only be two points in it, it is a really big game to keep us in the play-offs.”

Honours are currently even between the two sides this season, with Telford winning their last encounter 8-6 at the ice rink in November.

And Fielder is aware of the threat his side faces from the Lancashire outfit.

He added: “We should beat Trafford, but we have struggled against them over the last year.

“We were fighting with them in ENL 2 last season and only just beat them by a point.

“We had some good close games against them and we lost there earlier in the season, so it is a huge game.”

Fielder is expecting to have a fully-fit line-up for the weekend’s games and although Marek Hornak is still banned, he is hoping to finish with a flourish against Flintshire Freeze in the ENL Cup on Sunday evening.

He said: “At every home game we work hard and we want to put on a show for the fans.

“It would be nice to get some goals and give the crowd what they deserve.”

Tomorrow’s game faces off at 5.15pm, while on Sunday night the game starts at 5.30pm.
