Currys plans a revamp at store

Friday 22nd January 2010, 11:28AM GMT.

Electrical giant Currys has submitted plans to transform its current shop in Telford into a superstore, creating 13 new jobs.

It wants permission to create a mezzanine floor at the Telford Forge Retail Park store and open up extra space.

It would see “playtables” brought into the store allowing customers to try before they buy, a bigger range of products and wider aisles for a more comfortable shopping experience.

Bosses say the extension is necessary to ensure the company stays afloat amid increased competition from the internet and online sales.

They say it will create jobs – six full time and seven part time – and help keep shoppers in Telford instead of using the internet or neighbouring centres.

The application will be debated by members of Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board later this year.
