Wolves today completed their first signing of the January transfer window with the loan capture of Charleroi winger Geoffrey Mujangi Bia.

The 20-year-old, who watched Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Wigan from the director’s box, has signed a deal for the rest of the season with a view to a move said to be worth £2m in the summer.

Brussels-born Mujangi Bia, who has already been capped twice by Belgium, has scored nine goals in 57 games for Charleroi and could feature in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Crystal Palace after passing a medical.

Video footage shows Mujangi Bia as a pacy, strong, two-footed player who has the confidence to take players on and beat them – and he is not frightened to shoot.

Wolves have targeted a winger this month and have been scouting in Belgium and northern Europe for the last 18 months or so.

“We’ve very pleased to have signed Geoffrey,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

“He’s a player who Taff (Ian Evans) has been tracking for a while and will add some creativity and firepower to our squad.

“He’s an attacking midfielder who can play on the right or the left.”

Mujangi Bia has also struck twice in six games for the Belgian under-21 team prior to graduating to senior honours, his debut against Chile last May the first of two caps.

“I first heard about the interest a couple of weeks ago and am very happy to have signed,” said Mujangi Bia.

“I’ve played in England once before with Belgium Under-21s and it’s been my dream to play in the Premier League.

“It was good to meet the manager this week and I’m looking forward to playing for him.”

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey remains hopeful of more signings.

“This has been a difficult transfer window so far but we hope at least one or maybe two players will follow this signing,” said Moxey.

“We’re very pleased to have Geoffrey. He comes to us with excellent credentials and because he is only 20 years, he has enormous potential.

“He’s highly respected in Belgium and regarded as one of their most talented young players.”
