Archbishop set for county visit
Thursday 21st January 2010, 12:50PM GMT.
The Archbishop of Canterbury will visit Shropshire in November as part of a major tour of the Lichfield Diocese.
A number of events will be taking place across the diocese from November 5 to 8 during the four-day visit by Dr Rowan Williams, formerly Archbishop of Wales.
His visit will include time spent in the county and possibly a major event in the Telford area.
Local parishes have been asked to keep the dates clear to make sure that as many people as possible can be involved in the visit – the first to Shropshire by an Archbishop of Canterbury since Lord Carey in the early 1990s.
Gavin Drake, the director of communications for the Bishop and Diocese of Lichfield, said: “Since Archbishop Carey’s was the last major visit, I’ve been looking at the background and the planning and detail were amazing.
“This time the extended weekend will be in effect a parish mission for the diocese, a major celebration,” he added.
“We are all really looking forward to it.”
