Woman hurt in terrifying ordeal

Tuesday 19th January 2010, 5:34PM GMT.

A 23-year-old woman was injured in a terrifying ordeal in which she was grabbed and shoved to the ground by a man who accosted her on a footpath in Telford.

The attack left the woman screaming in horror, police said, and that frightened off the man who fled the scene.

His victim was left badly shocked and with bruising to her head and right shoulder.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the attack happened as the woman was walking along a footpath off Westbourne, Woodside, shortly after 11.30am on Sunday.

He said she was approached by a man she did not know and added: “The man walked past the victim but then turned and blocked her path.

“He then grabbed her and attempted to push her against a nearby garage.

“However, the force of the push knocked the victim off her feet and she fell to the floor screaming.

“This appeared to scare the man and he quickly made off on foot onto Westbourne and then towards the perimeter road.”

The man was described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 6ft tall and of medium build.

He wore dark jeans and a black jacket.

Anyone with information about the incident or who thinks they know the identity of the attacker is urged to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000.

Callers can, alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
