Teenager Danny Taylor is eager to build on the “dream” start to his Football League career after becoming the latest ace to roll off Shrewsbury Town’s production line.

The 18-year-old right-back made his Town debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Pirelli Stadium, deputising for the suspended Dean Holden.

And he repaid manager Paul Simpson’s faith with an assured display that drew praise from team-mates and fans alike.

Taylor becomes the latest in a long line of young guns to be blooded at first team level this season – following the path laid by the likes of Andreas Arestidou, Jake Simpson, Harry Hooman, Andre Gray, Jon Taylor and Will Richards.

“It was amazing,” said Taylor, who hails from Connah’s Quay in Deeside. “It was a dream come true, because I’ve been at Shrewsbury since I was 14.

“All the young lads are really grateful to Simmo for letting us get in and have our chance. Hopefully I took mine.

“As soon as I touched the ball I was okay. It was a great atmosphere as well, and was just amazing to play in front of so many fans.

“Hopefully I can get some more chances, but Dean Holden’s a good player so it’s hard to get in the squad ahead of him.”

Taylor only found out he was playing when he was called over by the manager on Friday morning to work with the rest of the back four on the team’s shape.

And he was straight on the phone to spread the news, admitting: “I was calling everyone to let them know. I told my dad first, and he was over the moon.

“He was there to watch with my mum and my brother. I thought it went okay and everyone said I did well.”

Meanwhile, skipper Graham Coughlan has been told he will be sidelined for up to three weeks after straining his hamstring early on in Saturday’s draw at Burton.

Defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff has also been booked in for a precautionary foot x-ray after picking up a knock on Saturday, though he has still been able to train as normal.
