Aga due to lay off 35 staff
Tuesday 19th January 2010, 11:00AM GMT.
The Aga company is set to lay off 35 staff from its two bases in Shropshire.
The company, which has premises in Coalbrookdale and Ketley in Telford, is cutting the jobs to reduce costs.
The company cut 15 jobs at the end of December from its Coalbrookdale operation, made up of factory workers, and in the latest round of cutbacks, 20 office staff from its Ketley site will lose their jobs at the end of this month.
A spokesman for Aga Rangemaster said tough decisions had to be taken by company bosses to secure its future.
He said: “This is a very regrettable part of our cost-cutting initiatives.
“However we employ over 2,600 people and we have to ensure that the business is in the right shape for the state of the market.
“Aga Rangemaster is now performing better and has continued to invest in new products, notably Rayburn made in Telford.”
Orders for the cookers were down 12 per cent last year compared to 2008 but in an announcement last week, chief executive William McGrath said the company had strengthened its cash position through effect cost-cutting.
