Monday 18th January 2010, 11:46AM GMT.
A 25-year-old Shropshire man has appeared in Shrewsbury Crown Court charged with murder.
Wayne Austin, of Claverley Crescent, Harlescott, appeared in front of Judge Robin Onions for a preliminary hearing today.
He is charged with the murder of Paul Wayne Rugg, 52, during an incident at a flat in Kynaston Road, Harlescott Grange in Shrewsbury on January 6.
Austin spoke only to confirm his name. The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing to be held in the week beginning March 29 at a court to be decided.
Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said: “The defendant appears before your honour following a sending from Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on January 9 in connection with an allegation of murder.
“The final forensic evidence is not anticipated to be received until eight weeks hence.”
Austin was remanded in custody.
Paramedics were called to the flat in Kynaston Road and found Mr Rugg with stab wounds. He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but died of his injuries.
Four men were arrested within hours of the incident.
Two have since been released without charge and another has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
