Bypass will shut during resurfacing
Saturday 16th January 2010, 10:58AM GMT.
Motorists using Shropshire’s A5 are being warned of overnight closures on the Oswestry bypass next week.
The work by the Highways Agency was due to start on January 4 but had to be postponed several times because of the weather conditions.
The agency says it is likely the work will now start on Monday and will involve overnight closures of part of the route.
Diversions will be set up while the work, expected to last a week, is carried out.
The work will see resurfacing of the A5 Whittington roundabout, near Oswestry.
To minimise disruption, work is to take place overnight when short sections of the A5 will be closed in both directions between the Mile End roundabout and Five Crosses roundabout. Diversions through Oswestry will be signposted.
Nathan Wallace, of the Highways Agency, said: “The bad weather has delayed us starting the work but as things stand we are looking to start on Monday evening.
“Obviously if the weather takes a turn again we will have to revise our plans.”
Motorists have been warned to allow extra time for journeys. The work is needed to renew the anti-skid road surfacing.
