Boss urges county to support Gavin

Saturday 16th January 2010, 10:01AM GMT.

Gavin TsangShropshire dancer Gavin Tsang will hope to wow the judges tonight in the next round of a prime-time BBC One TV show as his boss today called on the county to get behind him.

The 24-year-old dancer, from Shrewsbury, survived the first finals show of So You Think You Can Dance last weekend, although there was a nerve-wracking moment when he was told he could be facing the dance-off.

In the run-up to tonight’s live show he has told fans and friends he will step it up another level to impress the judges.

Mandy Causer, principal of the Gaston Payne School of Dance in Telford where Gavin teaches contemporary dance, today said everyone there was roaring him on to success.

She said: “I spoke to him on Saturday night after the show. He didn’t think he had done the duet as well as he had in rehearsal. He said it was hard because they put him in trousers that were too tight.

“But he said he was going to absolutely kill it this week. He will have been working so hard putting in hours and hours every day until he’s flat on the floor.

“Last week we got everyone from the dance school and people they know to phone in a few times and vote for him and I think we managed to get about 2,000 calls. Obviously without question we need to get the whole of Shropshire behind him.”

In a message on his Facebook page last Saturday, Gavin said: “Thanks for the support everyone! Will be stepping it up for next week’s performance!!!!”

The second live show will be aired at 6.30pm on BBC 1.
