Shrewsbury gas leak fears

Friday 15th January 2010, 1:18PM GMT.

Part of the centre of Shrewsbury was sealed off today after reports of a suspected gas leak.

There was a strong smell of gas and, in the wake of the Bridge Street explosion which left 12 people injured just over a fortnight ago, a cordon was thrown around the scene.

Part of the town centre was immediately shut off to traffic while a police cordon was set up between the Wheatsheaf pub and Starbucks in High Street.

The leak was though to be close to the Oxfam shop.
