Terry O’Connor has revealed the chance to work alongside new captain Ed Foster was the decisive factor in him becoming part of Shropshire’s Minor Counties set-up.
O’Connor has been named as the county’s new cricket co-ordinator for 2010 and will work to assist Foster throughout the one-day and Championship campaign.
And O’Connor, who was manager when Wellington re-wrote the Shropshire cricket history books with back-to-back Birmingham League premier division titles in 2003 and 2004, is thrilled to b involved.
“I was delighted when Ed got into contact asking me to get involved,” said O’Connor.
“To be honest, it was the fact that Ed was captain and Matt Tilt was vice-captain that convinced me.
“I have known them both a long time through Shropshire junior cricket and have really enjoyed the occasions I have worked with them.”
Former Surrey top-order batsman Chris Murtagh has also been unveiled as Shropshire professional alongside Andy Gray, and O’Connor has revealed Shropshire’s youngsters will be given their chance to flourish.
“It is important to all involved that it is seen as a Shropshire team,” he added.
“It’s now up to the players to take the chance they will be given.”
