Wolves increase bid for Hunt
Tuesday 12th January 2010, 3:15PM GMT.
Wolves have made a second bid for winger Stephen Hunt as they try to tempt Premier League rivals Hull into selling, writes Tim Nash.
Sources close to the deal have confirmed Wolves have lodged another offer, which is believed to be around £3m.
Hull are determined to hang on to the Republic of Ireland international, who is believed to be keen on the move. But their hand could be forced if the 28-year-old decides to submit a transfer request.
Boss Mick McCarthy admits his January team-strengthening is in the hands of the selling clubs after hinting a striker is his other main target. The club have bid for two players, one of which is for Hunt.
Wolves have also enquired about Leeds hot-shot Jermaine Beckford, although Newcastle are in pole position to sign the 26-year-old.
McCarthy is also keeping tabs on Tottenham’s Jamie O’Hara and weighing up a bid for Villa midfielder Craig Gardner.
