Gavin set for reality show
Saturday 9th January 2010, 9:20AM GMT.
A Shropshire dancer will be hoping to wow the judges on a new prime time BBC reality show after reaching the final 14 of the programme.
Gavin Tsang, from Shrewsbury, showcased his skills in the auditions stage for the BBC One show So You Think You Can Dance and tonight he will appear in the first round of the show.
The 23-year-old, who is the contemporary teacher at the Gaston-Payne Dance School in Stafford Park, Telford, will be tested to the limit by choreographers in various dance genres before judges Arlene Phillips and Nigel Lythgoe.
Mr Tsang only got into dancing when he was 18 after landing the role of Danny Zuko in a school production of Grease.
He met Jessie Lee Santos, one of Britney Spears’s backing dancers, while he was on a two-day dance workshop in Shrewsbury and was encouraged to finish his classical training before deciding to continue with his dancing career, studying at the Merseyside Dance School.
Mandy Causer, principal at the Gaston-Payne Dance School, said she was “absolutely ecstatic” for Mr Tsang and urged people in Shropshire to support him.
She added: “I think he has the ability to go all the way.”
So You Think You Can Dance, which is presented by Cat Deeley, will be on BBC One at 7pm.
