Button has long term aim
Saturday 9th January 2010, 12:26PM GMT.
Loan star David Button is eager to remain at Shrewsbury Town for the remainder of the season – to be involved in a promotion push.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper will stay on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of February after Town boss Paul Simpson reached an agreement with his opposite number Harry Redknapp.
And Button has revealed he would be quite happy for that to be extended further should the two clubs agree.
“If everything went well and in place, going to the end of the season is an option,” he said. “It would be nice to get into League One with an end of season push
“Without doubt promotion is our aim and if we carry on like we have been over the last two games it’s very achievable.
“But we have to keep our heads down and keep working hard.”
Despite being in the embryonic stages of his career, Button has already had loan spells at several Football League clubs.
Crewe, Dagenham, Luton, Rochdale and Bournemouth have already offered the England age-group goalkeeper the chance of vital first team experience, but it is at Shrewsbury where he has felt most at home.
“This is probably the loan I have most enjoyed – the staff here are fantastic, especially the goalkeeper coach, Dave Timmins,” Button added.
“I’ve signed until February so hopefully I can get some more games during January.
“It’s really positive at the moment and we are all buzzing after two good away wins. Hopefully we can kick on now.”
